Edison spans many sections, from Menlo Park, where Thomas Edison ran his laboratory, to Clara Barton, Oak Tree, Nixon and Bonhamtown. The township took the inventor’s name in 1954 and today is a commercial hub, home to Menlo Park Mall and the district known as Little India. We design residential, multi-family and commercial projects throughout Edison.

Our Services
Additions, custom homes, multi-family housing and commercial buildings for Edison, with approvals planned from the first sketch.
Edison’s Zoning Board of Adjustment regularly hears bulk variance requests for porches, decks and additions in residential zones such as RA and RB. When your plan needs relief on setbacks or coverage, we prepare the drawings and coordinate the application.

Some new single-family homes on existing Edison lots need use or bulk variances, including relief from maximum lot coverage. We design a house that fits both the lot and your family, then take it through any review it requires.

Edison’s zoning code includes two affordable housing districts, AHOZ and AHOZ-2, among its residential zones. Our multi-family work covers new apartments, townhouses and value-add conversions, with floor plans tuned for faster leasing and specifications chosen for durability.

The township’s code includes a Flexible Business Zone, a Research, Office and Laboratory district and a Raritan River Revitalization District. We design expansions, code-compliance upgrades and new buildings for businesses and franchise brands.

Edison’s place names run from Menlo Park and North Edison to New Dover, Raritan Manor and Clara Barton. We listen first, then design for the specific street, lot and household in front of us.
Edison’s zoning board has postponed applications for improper notice and required applicants to notice again. We prepare each application carefully to help the hearing stay on schedule.
For businesses along Route 1 and Lincoln Highway, we design improvements in phases and coordinate closely with building officials so operations keep moving.
Builders regularly tell us our drawings are the easiest they have worked with. An Edison homeowner gets the same complete, construction-ready set.
Our franchise and corporate clients include Cadillac, Kia, Buick, Chevrolet and Ford, and the same team designs additions and new homes for families.
Kurt founded the firm in 1991 and leads a team with backgrounds in architecture, engineering and interior design.
Will my Edison addition need a variance?
Only if it goes beyond what your zone allows, for example on setbacks or lot coverage. In that case the request goes to Edison’s Zoning Board of Adjustment, which lists each case with the code sections involved.
What happens if the public notice for my hearing is wrong?
Edison’s zoning board has carried applications to later dates when notice was improper and required the applicant to send notice again. Careful preparation of the notice package helps avoid that delay.
Is Metuchen part of Edison?
No. Metuchen is a separate borough that Edison surrounds on every side, with its own planning and zoning boards. Both Metuchen and Highland Park were formed from Raritan Township, the township later renamed Edison.
Do you take on commercial projects along Route 1?
Yes. Our commercial work includes expansions, adaptive upgrades and new construction, and we keep approvals on track by coordinating with building officials.
